7 Quick Takes Weekly Wrap-up

1. This week I posted a beautiful youtube video of an acoustic version of a Taylor Swift Song and Coldplay's Viva La Vida. I love it. I also wrote about the semi-finals of American Idol and the blow-you-away Lost finale (Missy, you guys have GOT to catch up ;)). I also reviewed the book I just finished, Walk Back the Cat by Pamela Binning Ewen.

2. My office is finally re-opening on Monday. After two weeks of working from home, I can say that I really enjoy it and would love to keep doing it. :) Oh well, I do appreciate the people I work with and am excited to see them all again. Most of all, I know this was a huge stress for a few people, and I'm glad the burden on them is lifting.

3. One of my my favorite recipes for the past year has been Thai Coconut Soup. I includes shitake mushrooms (which aren't the cheapest) so I can't make it all the time. I do love it though!

4. In early June my sisters is coming back from overseas to get a summer job before starting college in the fall. She's flying in to Dallas, and my other sisters is flying in from Chicago to join the party. We're all going to drive over to her college for an early orientation thing, where Isaac and I will be playing parents (so weird), but mostly I think it'll be a fun family road trip filled with craziness. I love my sisters, and we're all excited. Poor Joy will be jet-lagged and still grieving her goodbye to the place that has become home, but I am glad that she can be with family when she comes back, instead of being alone as I was for a couple of summers when I first came back to the U.S.

5. After what felt like a full month of rain, Dallas is finally cleared up and the warm, sunny skies are so refreshing. Yesterday during my long walk around a beautiful little part, I found myself rejoicing at the squirrels, ducks, turtles, pigeons, dogs and their owners, families with babies, and couples walking hand in hand. Walking has always resulted in just a flood of worship for me, and I guess I was rather convicted as well. I have really struggled to look at the daily grind of life with joy recently. I was reminded that there is much beauty and joy in the little things in life, particularly in light of the hope we hold and the joy of salvation. So... I am trying to discipline myself to choose to rejoice.

6. Erica over at Fuenekes Family in Indonesia wrote a post this week about marriage practices over in Papua, where I grew up. It sort of made me chuckle, because I do remember being confused growing up about the difference between "kawin" and "nikah", both of which sort of translate into marriage in our culture. One of them means married with the full wedding and legal process and all. The other is sort of living together, but with a recognized commitment but without the wedding (mostly because they can't afford it). It's interesting stuff...

7. My post on Wednesday about make-up got a pretty decent response with a lot of recommendations - check it out and add more if you haven't posted yet. My list of what I want to buy when my current stuff runs out has definitely grown!
