2. I wrote about TIME magazine's article on marriage and divorce on my theology blog, and then last night read Christianity Today's article about the same thing. It boils down to one question - marriage will continue to fail until we come to an understanding of the purpose of marriage that is something other than personal fulfillment.
3. Who's been watching So You Think You Can Dance?! I love it... Jeanette and Brandon have been my favorites, but I do love Janine too. Last night I decided I want to see crazy Cat Deeley standing next to Ryan Seacrest. He's short, she's a giant, it would be great. Our apartment loves the show but dreads every time Crazy Mary starts to go on her annoying screamy hot tamale train schtick.
4. I was supposed to meet a new refugee family this week, but turns out they have the same names as half the other refugees from their people group, so it's nearly impossible to keep track of them! Hah... such a funny problem to have. In any case, they couldn't get in contact with them yet, so maybe next week! This family will be less educated and we won't have a common language, so it's all a little intimidating.
5. Did you guys see the news about the cyber-attack on the US and South Korea? I can't believe it wasn't a more prominent news story! The range of places it hit (the Pentagon, the National Security Administration, etc) is stunning.
6. The cheap fresh fruit this summer has me in heaven. I LOVE fruit. I'm also hoarding it for all of the desserts that are too expensive the rest of the year. This week I'm trying strawberry pie and peach cobbler - anyone have favorite recipes to recommend?
7. And finally... Our roommates introduced me to the Dallas Farmers Market, and I was totally impressed. We only visited the two massive open-air buildings that house the fresh produce section, and it was fantastic. The brilliant colors, fresh summer fruit (with free samples), and the people watching... great stuff.

I officially LOVE the Farmers Market.
And as I looked over the photos before posting it hit me that I can't believe I actually live in Texas and that a cowboy in a plaid shirt and a cowboy hat sold me fruit. *shakes head*... my life has taken me to such opposite parts of the world.

Those strawberries look AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteWow, the end of that cyber-attack article was the most interesting. What they said about North Korea, China and the USA. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI love the photos from the market!! We get most of our produce from the outdoor markets here instead of shopping at the supermarket for everything!
ReplyDeleteI loved your quick takes! I'll have to stalk around on your other blogs too, now because I'm thoroughly interested. Hope you don't mind? :)
ReplyDeleteI was pretty amazed that the cyber attacks didn't make more of a dent in the news too. This seems pretty major to me, and we've all been like 'Oh, what can NKorea actually do...they're tiny and insignificant...' but if they can accomplish such a massive infiltration of our cyber world, that's a big deal. To me anyway.
Beautiful produce photos. Now my mouth is watering.
Oh wow- this is such a fun, gorgeous post! I went to a farmer's market in Milwaukee and really enjoyed it! Great photos :)
ReplyDeleteHey Kac, i have a recipe for strawberry pie that i got this year. I've made it twice in the last month and really like it! Email me if you'd like the recipe. I don't have time to type it all up right now...
ReplyDeleteoops..this is missy. guess kars was still signed on. =) You probably would've figu
ReplyDeletered that out. haha...this is hilarious...three comments in a row...
ReplyDeleteFarmer's Market! We have a great one in Kansas City, it's downtown... The first time I went it was still cold outside, and we went at 6 in the morning. It was FREEZING and there were just a few vendors there, mostly selling vegetables. Now if you go, it's exploded! There's fruit everywhere, tons of plants for sale, including beautiful orchids, there are some booths set up by the Amish with breads and cinnamon rolls. My favorite is how you can get two of those huge containers of strawberries for $5. I was craving a trip there this morning, but didn't end up going... Farmer's Markets are great!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Sounds like a fun farmers' market adventure. :) I'm hoarding fruit too lol
ReplyDeleteI love SYTYCD. I talk about it with my sis-in-laws since we all love it. Best show of the summer!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, about peaches and strawberries, here are my two recommendations (though they are a bit different than what you asked for, but I love them both!)
Peach Beehives in Hard Sauce
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Peach-Beehives-with-Hard-Sauce/Detail.aspx
I did it a bit different though in that I used homemade pie dough and I didn't do a whole peach per person. It seemed weird to me that people would have to cut around the pit ... and just big. So I cut the peaches in half, pitted them and each person got a half portion. The sauce is SO good on it.
Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble
http://smittenkitchen.com/2007/05/crumbling-crisp-convictions/
I've never actually made it with the rhubarb. I love it strawberry/peach but any combo works. You just alter the amount of lemon and sugar to fit how tart you want it. I usually make it once a summer.
