My bosses got together at Christmas and gave me the best work Christmas gift I've ever received: a romantic weekend getaway with Isaac at a bed & breakfast in South Texas. SWEET. We made it a Valentines getaway, and it was fantastic, and made even sweeter when both of us had work cancelled because of the snow on Friday. We got to see Austin (my first time), putter around tiny hick towns, and generally enjoy quiet time alone together. Can't beat that!

I'm still researching graduate schools in counseling. When Isaac is done with his grad degree, we'll likely move somewhere where I've found a grad school program I like and he's found a school he can teach at. That means we need several options to apply to. Anyone have ANY grad school programs in counseling that they'd suggest, anywhere around the US? -- 3 --
I'm confused about some blogger things. First of all, with the latest update I lost the ability to spell check. Anyone have the same problem? Secondly, I'm confused about comment moderation. I basically have selected to have no moderation at all, and yet when the hubs comments on my blogs it still requires word verification! One you said you didn't have to type in word verification when you commented - let me know what you all are seeing.

Last week I made the Pioneer Woman's Apple Dumplings. They were a complete success, and Isaac repeatedly told me he loved them. They are ridiculously unhealthy, but that's what the super bowl is all about, right? So I suppose it fit. In any case, they are super easy to make. -- 5 --
Over the weekend we watched the Hurt Locker. It was interesting. I'd heard it was the first movie about the war in Afghanistan, but really while it is set in Afghanistan, it's not really about the war. It's about war in general, and about what draws people to war. The quote at the beginning. talks about the rush of battle being like a drug, and that for me summed up the movie. It was interesting, very interesting, but not so much enjoyable.

This weekend is the biggest event of the year in the Student Ministries at my church. 500+ of us will be spending all weekend together, which will be fun and exhausting. It's always good to get quality time with my girls, though!

Did I tell you you'd enjoy the Hurt Locker? Haha, sorry for being WRONG. Then again, you found it interesting? For me, interesting = enjoyable. But maybe it wasn't that kind of interesting. I hope it gets Best Picture, anyway, but it'll probably be Avatar.
ReplyDeleteMy parents got their (Biblical) counselling degrees at The Masters College in LA, California.
I don't have to word-verify on this blog, but on your other one, I have to.
ReplyDeleteI'm not JUST recommending it because my husband and I happen to go there, but Covenant Theological Seminary has an excellent Masters in Counseling program that prepares you to be ready for licensure by the time you are finished, I believe. I know many people who have gone through it/are currently in it, and they have all had marvelous experiences. And we know the head of the department personally - he's tremendous.
ReplyDeleteAnd if your hubby has a PhD in church history? Historical theology? Either way, there are a few universities in town that might be job potential (St. Louis University particuarly).
Jaimie - I DID like the Hurt Locker actually, it just wasn't a movie you ENJOY watching, know what I mean? It's pretty dark and sad, but still very well-made and so I did like watching it. :)
ReplyDeleteCovenant... I will look into it! The hubs will have, by that time, a ThM (four year graduate program in theology, Greek, Hebrew, and church history) in church history.
FYI - I answered your questions on my blog. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have to word-verify!
ReplyDeleteNot that I have great advice about a particular program being amazing, but I just want to campaign for the Pacific NW! ha! The University of Puget Sound (where I go) has a counseling master's program...it's definitely not Christian, though. As I type I'm realizing this isn't a very convincing argument :), so I'll end it with: Washington is fantastic! I live squished in between the Cascades and the Olympics, with huge Mt. Rainier looming on clear days. Anyways, I love being in Tacoma, and maybe you should think about it. ;) Not the Midwest, not Texas...
